Tallahassee Chiropractor Dr. Dennis G. Fiorini Says that Headaches Are Literally a Pain in the Neck!

Posted in Articles tagged , , , at 5:40 pm by dennisfiorini

A recent study confirmed that the cause of most headaches directly correlates to conditions of the neck.  The science behind this study puts emphasis on the relationship between the neck bones and the central nervous system.  Alignment and movement of the neck bones proves to be critical for the health of the brain and the circulation of spinal fluid and blood.

Ground braking research revolutionizes the way headaches are viewed by the medical community.  World renowned researcher Dr. Nikoli Bogduk found all headaches shared a relationship with the upper neck!  Bogduk noted that every single headache directly correlated to abnormal cervical (neck ) spine nerve function.  Bogduk conducted his research over several years and published a number of studies proving the connection.  Most of the medical community continues to only treat headaches with the drug therapy model which relives symptoms but never fully addresses the cause of headaches.

Recent research reveals the importance of spinal health for headache sufferers and proves the connection between chiropractic and headache relief.  Millions of headache sufferers experience relief and often permanent correction for their headaches through upper cervical adjustments.  Millions more continue to suffer due to their belief that relief only exists in the form of pharmaceutical drugs that can mask pain but don’t address the underlying cause of the headache.  The result of course is the return of the headache time and time again.

Upper cervical chiropractic care influences many different types of headaches due to the relationship between the neck bones, the flow of spinal fluid around the brain and the flow of blood to the brain.  Tension headaches, migraines, cluster headaches and sinus pain make up the four most common forms of headache.

Tension headaches are the most common type of headache.  These headaches may present as a “hat band” distribution of pain around the head.  This pain can be accompanied by a dull ache or pressure.  Tension headaches may cause mild-moderate pain on both sides of the head and are usually triggered by high stress, neck strain, hunger, depression, anxiety or lack of sleep.

Migraines debilitate millions of Americans.  Women are more commonly suffer with these types of headaches than do men.  The pain can last as long as five days and the pain limits the sufferers ability to perform normal activities of daily living.  Migraine headaches present as a throbbing pain on one side of the head.  Sometimes over one eye or behind the eyes.  These patients are very often sensitive to light and sound.  Severe cases can have nausea and vomiting.

Cluster headaches are more common in men.  These headaches manifest as severe burning and piercing behind one eye or on one side of the face.  Sometimes flushing and sweating occur on the affected side.  Cluster headaches occur in a series lasting from 15 minutes to 3 hours each.  Most sufferers experience one to four headaches a day, usually around the same time every day!  The cluster name refers to when one headache resolves it is replaced by a new on shortly after.

Sinus and allergy headaches comprise a very common category of headache situation.  Sinus headaches often occur as a result of an allergic reaction to pollen, molds, etc.  Obviously the pain caused by sinus problems is most often in the front of the face over the sinus areas.

Upper cervical chiropractic care provides a drugless means of relief from all of these different forms of headaches by improving the connection between the upper part of the neck and the central nervous system!  The origins of headaches come in a variety of forms.  The body functions much better and heals better when the brain and the spinal cord function at their optimal capacity.  People who suffer with headaches deserve to know that there are alternative treatments for relief without the use of side-effecting drugs which trap them in a cycle of pain and pharmaceutical pain management.  Call us and schedule and appointment if you or a loved one are suffering from this debilitating condition.

Driving a car is a practical daily necessity for many people. While driving a car is typically a very safe experience, many people will get into an auto accident at some point. In some situations, this can leave someone dealing with a significant amount of back or neck pain afterwards. In these situations, it is very common for someone to be prescribed pain relief medication. While this may help to alleviate the pain temporarily, pain medication can be very addictive and should be avoided. A better option for many people would be to visit a chiropractor for auto accident relief from pain.

Consultation and Assessment

When you meet with a chiropractor, the first thing the chiropractor will do is determine why exactly you are experiencing your pain. I will complete a full evaluation of your back, neck, shoulders and spine to see if there is a misalignment or other type of trauma. Once this has been done, they will be able to better assess and provide you with a treatment plan.

Treat the Pain

Auto accident pain relief from a chiropractor can be treated a number of different ways. One of the first ways that this can be done is through a massage.  A chiropractor may use a massage to loosen up your muscles and joints, which will then allow them to heal properly.  In other situations the treatment could require that they work to re-position your spine.  This will help to improve blood flow and reduce the prevalence of pinched nerves.  This should then lead to an overall reduction in back or neck pain.

Ongoing Support

Depending on the severity of the auto accident and your injuries, you may need additional ongoing support from the chiropractor going forward. In these situations, the chiropractor will work with you to continue to rebuild the strength of the injured area. They will be able to do this by not only providing you with ongoing pain relief but also by providing you but physical therapy exercises that can be completed either at the office or at home.

Roughly half of all sufferers have well-known triggers that result in migraine discomfort. Those include a change in weather, sleep deprivation, stress and alcohol consumption. About 70% of those who suffer from recurring migraines have family members who also suffer from the same pain, though their triggers may differ.

How Chiropractic Care for Can Help?

Your chiropractor can perform many procedures to help alleviate your migraine pain. Spinal manipulation improves spinal functions to alleviate stress and inflammation that leads to pain. The Difference Between a Headache and a Migraine from a Chiropractor in Tallahassee

Posted in Articles tagged , , , , , , , , at 1:41 am by dennisfiorini

Headaches, especially when they occur regularly or the pain is severe, can be debilitating.  You may be wondering whether your pain is symptomatic of the typical headache or an actual migraine.  Your symptoms will let you know.  Consider these characteristics of a migraine headache.

Your body may give you advance notice that a migraine is on the way.  Before the pulsing pain starts, some people experience feelings of well-being and a ravenous appetite.  A sudden burst of energy can make you restless and talkative, or tense and irritable.  You probably won’t get these warning signs before a non-migraine headache.

Symptoms are more intense than with the typical headache.  Headaches can last anywhere from from four to 72 hours, and may be severe enough to interfere with your daily routine.  The pain is often pulsing and localized on one side of the head.  If your headaches fit this description and cause nausea, vomiting, or over-sensitivity to light and noise, most likely, you’re suffering from a migraine headache.

These symptoms usually continue throughout the duration of a migraine.  Some patients even report that nausea and vomiting are accompanied by diarrhea.  You may notice tenderness or a feeling of pressure on your scalp, your skin may be especially pale, and your hands can become cold or sweaty.

Many patients report experiencing other symptoms that accompany a throbbing migraine headache, such as visual disturbances, like wavy spots or flickering lights, called an aura.  Feeling a tingling sensation or numbness is common.  When trying to talk to some one, you may find it difficult to string words together.  These symptoms should disappear when the headache is over.

Traditional medical doctors frequently prescribe powerful painkillers to manage the problem.  As many headache sufferers know, these only mask the symptoms, come with unpleasant side effects, and sometimes aren’t very effective.  A chiropractor can work with patients to identify the root causes of chronic or severe headaches.  Common culprits include nervous system dysfunctions, stress, and food sensitivities.  Chiropractic care can provide natural, effective, long-lasting relief.
